Heart Disease, Gum Disease and CoQ10

November 30, 2013

Heart disease is a major health problem. But as with so many other major health issues, some degree of prevention is possible, whether through regular medical exams, a healthy diet and exercise, or through nutritional supplements.

Today we’d like to take a moment to look at one such supplement—CoQ10. This enzyme is found naturally in the body, in some foods, and can be safely made in a laboratory and used to treat certain medical problems

One of those ways it can be used is in the prevention and treatment of heart disease. In research, it was found that patients with a cardiovascular disease often have a CoQ10 deficiency. By adding CoQ10 to your diet with a supplement, it may help you prevent or reverse a range of different problems, some related to heart health and some not. Those problems may include:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • High blood pressure
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Mitral valve prolapse
  • Angina
  • Diabetes
  • Immune deficiency

Another condition that CoQ10 may help with is periodontal disease, which is also known as gum disease. In some studies, it has been found that CoQ10 may help patients treat this common oral health problem when it’s taken my mouth or applied directly to the patient’s gum tissue. Advanced gum disease has also been linked to heart disease in some studies.

Do you have questions about CoQ10 and its benefits? Do you struggle with the symptoms of gum disease? Call Randolph Dental Care to schedule an appointment with Dr. Goldstein. Our office serves patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.

Get the Most Out of Your Remaining Dental Benefits

November 22, 2013

The year is quickly coming to a close. That means you only have a limited amount of time to take advantage of your remaining dental benefits. Why not use the few weeks that are left to make an appointment before we leave 2013 behind forever?

We recommend that our Randolph patients come in for a regular checkup and cleaning twice a year. If you’ve only seen us once, this is the perfect time for one more checkup. Or maybe you want to start planning the general or restorative work you need next year. During a consultation appointment, we can start laying the groundwork while you can still benefit from your current dental benefits.

What happens if you don’t use your remaining dental benefits? Unfortunately, they don’t roll over. That means next year will come with a fresh deductible and yearly maximum. It may also mean changes to your premiums and your co-pays.

Do you need to schedule one more visit before the year is up? Call Randolph Dental Care today to reserve an appointment with Dr. Goldstein. We’ll be happy to help you create a healthier, more beautiful smile while getting the most out of your remaining dental benefits.

We’re happy to serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.

Remote Area Medical—Helping Those Who Need It Most

November 14, 2013

Back in 2007, The New York Time Magazine published a short profile on Remote Area Medical. The organization, which frequently goes into developing countries to provide medical care to the poor, has increasingly been turning its focus on those in rural and suburban parts of America, where many don’t have health insurance, or the number of hospitals and primary-care doctors is lower.

Care at a Remote Area Medical event ranges from basic medical help to dermatology and even dentistry. Over the course of a weekend, a team of medical volunteers donates their time and expertise to improve lives and make a difference.

Dr. Goldstein participated in such an event earliest this year, back in February. Over a matter of three days, patients who needed important dental care were able to see a dentist with years of experience.

Why is dental care so important? Because poor oral health goes beyond your smile to affect your overall health.  To enjoy good oral and overall health, make regular dental appointments a priority, and follow a good oral care routine daily.

Call Randolph Dental Care to schedule an appointment. We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and surrounding areas.

You can also donate your time and resources to Remote Area Medical. Visit their site to see how you can help.

Oral Health and Pregnancy

November 1, 2013

Every patient needs to take good care of his or her teeth, but pregnant women are especially vulnerable. Why? The reason is simple: studies have shown that there’s a link between gum disease and instances of premature birth. Other complications are possible as well.

By contrast, maintaining optimal oral health throughout the length of your pregnancy will protect you from common oral health issues, and can even have a positive effect on other kinds of health problems, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Why are pregnant women at a greater risk of gum disease?

It has to do with the higher levels of progesterone in the body during this time. The increase of this hormone means your gums are more prone to irritation from plaque, which can lead to gingivitis.

So how can you protect your smile as you prepare to welcome a new member of your family into the world? We recommend three pieces of advice:

  • Brush and floss on a regular basis, and pay special attention to your gum line.
  • Limit the number of processed, sugary foods you eat. Enjoys fruits and vegetables instead.
  • Ask Dr. Goldstein for personal recommendations based on your own health needs.

Are you expecting a little bundle of joy? Protect your smile from gum disease with regular dental care. Call Randolph Dental Care today for an appointment. We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
