Working with Remote Area Medical
February 5, 2013
Dr. Goldstein offered free dental care Saturday February 2, 2013 through Sunday February 3 when he participated in a weekend clinic put on by Remote Area Medical. Over the course of that weekend, hundreds of patients in need were able to have a variety of medical needs met, including dental, vision, and general medical care. In the dental clinic patients, had their teeth cleaned, filled and, when necessary extracted. Due to limited access to care, a large majority of the patients unfortunately required extractions. This was Dr. Goldstein’s third mission to help the underserved.
Patients began lining up Friday night at Chilhowee Park to make sure that they could be seen when the clinic opened the next day. For many of those who were there, a clinic like this one is the only way they can get the essential care they need.
Dr. Goldstein was proud to add his experience and expertise to the mix. A healthy smile is important for overall health and well being. When your oral health suffers, so can your health as a whole. A condition like gum disease can contribute to health conditions in the rest of the body, while missing or damaged teeth can make it hard to enjoy a diet of nutritious foods.
Comprehensive Periodontal Therapy from Dr. Goldstein
November 28, 2012
In our last post, we mentioned that in a recent survey completed for the CDC revealed that gum disease is a more prevalent condition than many originally thought. So today, we’d like to talk about the periodontal therapies you’ll find at Randolph Dental Care.
One of the most basic forms of periodontal therapy is scaling and root planing. Often, for patients with milder forms of gum disease, scaling and root planing is the primary—and sometimes the only—treatment needed.
Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical therapy. The purpose of each is to remove plaque, calculus, and bacteria from either around or underneath the gum line.
Plaque is made from bacteria, and when not removed by brushing, flossing or a professional cleaning, it hardens into calculus. Plaque and calculus combined are what cause the soft tissue irritations responsible for gum disease.
But another nonsurgical tool that is helping Dr. Goldstein provide top-notch periodontal therapy to Randolph and beyond is Arestin. Using Arestin, Dr. Goldstein of Randolph Dental Care can provide more effective healing than he can with scaling and root planing alone. That’s because Arestin fights infection with medicated microspheres of antibiotics, delivering more concentrated care than is possible with a pill. What’s more, it’s painlessly delivered to where you need it and continues fighting well after your appointment is over.
Do you need treatment for gum disease? Explore our periodontal therapy page for more information, and call our Randolph dental office to reserve an appointment.
We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Gum Disease – More Prevalent than You Might Have Imagined
November 14, 2012
Gum disease is a prevalent oral health condition. So prevalent, in fact, that it’s one of the primary conditions Dr. Goldstein looks for at his Randolph dental office. Not only is gum disease the primary cause of adult tooth loss, it’s also been connected to a range of health problems in the rest of the body.
A recent survey regarding gum disease completed by the CDC has revealed that this already prevalent condition may be an even bigger problem than was initially believed.
The findings of the CDC’s study reveal that one out of every two US adults over 30 has some form of gum disease. That translates to 47.2% of the adult population—close to half.
Gum disease can vary from individual to individual, with some patients experiencing more developed symptoms and others experiencing mild symptoms or even no symptoms at all. That’s why regular visits with Dr. Goldstein at Randolph Dental Care are so important.
During a regular checkup with Dr. Goldstein, our Randolph team can thoroughly assess how your smile is doing. That way, we can know for sure if gum disease is something you need help with. If it is, we’re happy to offer comprehensive treatment. In certain cases, treatment may only mean spending more time brushing and flossing every day. For others, though, more advanced care may be needed.
In our next post, we’ll explain Dr. Goldstein’s treatment options and how they can help. In the meantime, if you know gum disease is something you’re struggling with, don’t hesitate to call Randolph Dental Care for an appointment.
We’re happy to help patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Protecting Young Students from Cavities with DIAGNOdent
August 31, 2012
As your family prepares for the start of a new school year, there’s one thing our entire team at Randolph Dental Care would like to remind you about: a back-to-school checkup. Now may be the last time you can bring your son or daughter in before the new school year ramps up and the holiday season arrives, so don’t miss it.
What to Expect from a Back-to-School Checkup
During your child’s back-to-school checkup, Dr. Goldstein will thoroughly examine your child’s smile for signs of common oral health conditions. As part of that exam, our Randolph office will use a variety of advanced technologies and techniques the make the process easier and more precise.
One of the tools we’ll use is DIAGNOdent. As we first explained in our post from April 30, DIAGNOdent is used to spot signs of decay early, before they have a chance to worsen. To do this, it uses a laser light to compare what we find with a healthy baseline, making it possible to spot decay before we can even diagnose it with just a visual exam.
Of course, everyone—dentists included—wish there was a way to get rid of decay completely, but that’s a long way off. So until then, DIAGNOdent is the best tool that Dr. Goldstein and dentists like him have to protect smiles of all ages from developing a serious problem with tooth decay.
Have You Scheduled Your Child’s Back-to-School Visit?
If you still need to schedule a back-to-school checkup for your son or daughter, don’t hesitate to give Randolph Dental Care a call. Our Randolph team is always ready to help patients improve their oral health with great full-service dentistry and contemporary technology. We serve patients from Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
How Technology Is Improving Dental Care
August 10, 2012
In our post from April 30, we talked about a unique tool called DIAGNOdent that’s making it easier for Dr. Goldstein and his team at Randolph Dental Care to detect and treat tooth decay early, as result, making dentistry more comfortable and more efficient.
But DIAGNOdent isn’t the only tool that’s helping us do all this. Our high-tech office in Randolph features other great tools that are improving dentistry, whether by making treatment quicker, more comfortable, or safer. You can read about some of these tools below:
With 3D CT scanning, Dr. Goldstein can take high-quality, 3-dimenionsal images of your smile, improving our ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of dental health conditions. Adding a 3D CT scanning machine to our Randolph office has truly improved our ability to help our patients.
We know how distressing dental drills can be for some patients. That’s why, at Randolph Dental Care, we’ve started using air abrasion when treating patients with tooth decay. Air abrasion doesn’t produce the sounds or sensations a drill does and is actually a faster, more comfortable, and more conservative tool.
Have you ever wished you could have an entire crown procedure finished in a single visit instead of two or three? CEREC makes that possible. Using our CEREC machine, Dr. Goldstein can design, mill, and place your crown in just one visit to our Randolph dental office, eliminating the need for temporary crowns or for multiple appointments.
Oral cancer screenings are important, but often, oral cancer isn’t diagnosed until it’s visible to the naked eye. By then, however, the disease may be too advanced to effectively treat. But with ViziLite, Dr. Goldstein can see what the naked eye can’t, letting him diagnose and treat oral cancer during its earliest stages, when treatment and recovery are still possible.
Are you ready to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Goldstein? Call Randolph Dental Care today. We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Image a Life without Tooth Decay
July 27, 2012
It was noted in a recent article from The Huffington Post that over 70% of the world’s population has cavities. What’s more, patients spend billions of dollars every year to prevent or treat tooth decay. But what if we told you that serious problems with cavities could soon be a thing of the past?
That’s not science fiction; it’s a fact. Two researchers—one out of Yale University and another from the University of Chile—have found a way to kill decay-causing bacteria with a special molecule they’ve dubbed “Keep 32.”
How does it work?
To understand that, you have to know how the tooth decay process works. It all begins when bacteria eat what you eat, and release lactic acid. It’s this substance—lactic acid—and not sugar that’s responsible for tooth decay.
The “Keep 32” molecule may be able to help by killing bacteria before they release lactic acid. And the best part is that “Keep 32” could do this through our toothpaste, mouthwash or mints making your regular home treatment more effective than it already is.
But as great as this news is, there’s no way to get your hands on “Keep 32” just yet, meaning that the best way to keep your smile clean and cavity-free is with good nutrition, daily brushing and flossing, and regular visits with Dr. Goldstein at Randolph Dental Care.
To schedule your next visit with us, give our Randolph dental office a call today. We serve families from Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Periodontal Therapy from Dr. Goldstein
June 26, 2012
In our last blog past, we discussed the relationship between your oral health and your overall health, noting that inflammation in your mouth can lead to other health conditions. Specifically, the inflammation we were talking about was a common condition known as periodontal disease, or gum disease.
When gums become inflamed, it’s because of bacteria and plaque. When this inflammation isn’t treated, pockets can develop between the soft tissue of the gums and your teeth. That’s what gives bacteria and plaque access to the bloodstream and, from there, other parts of the body.
But the good news is that, at our Randolph dental office, Dr. Goldstein has three great periodontal therapies for patients to take advantage of:
- Scaling
- Root planning
- Arestin
Scaling and root planning are procedures that let Dr. Goldstein clean below the gumline to rid teeth and gums of harmful plaque and bacteria. Arestein, meanwhile, is a topical antibiotic that provides patients with long-lasting protection against bacteria. It’s applied below the gumline in our office and goes to work immediately, releasing powerful medication over time to deliver painless treatment.
Have you noticed a change in how your gums are doing? Don’t put off your next visit any longer. Call Dr. Goldstein’s Randolph dental office today to schedule your next visit. We recommend that you see Dr. Goldstein every six months for a regular cleaning and exam. That way we can help you stay on top of your oral health. Schedule your visit with us today if you live in Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and surrounding areas.
The Relationship Between Your Oral Health and Overall Health
June 12, 2012
If you’ve always assumed there’s no connection between your smile and your general well being, you might be surprised at what recent studies from The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of the American College of Cardiology have reported. In both cases, it was found that inflammation in the mouth contributed to coronary artery disease and other heart conditions, drawing a direct link between oral health and heart health.
But it’s not the heart that can be affected by poor oral health. Inflammation in the mouth has also been shown to have a connection with health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes complications, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, pneumonia, pre-term birth and more.
So what does all this mean for you?
It means that looking after your smile is more important than you might have realized. You already knew, of course, that it was important to watch out for gum disease and tooth decay, but this new information makes regular visits and brushing and flossing even more important.
How Long Has It Been Since Your Last Regular Exam and Cleaning?
Because a healthy smile is so important to your overall health, we recommend that you see Dr. Goldstein and his Randolph team twice a year—or about every six months—for a regular oral exam and cleaning. Through regular visits like these at our Randolph dental office, we can help you keep a close eye on your oral health, helping it stay healthy and strong for years to come
Our Randolph office serves patients from Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and surrounding areas. We look forward to hearing from you.
A Special Honor from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists
May 15, 2012
This past December, Dr. Goldstein was awarded Diplomate status by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
The ICOI is a non-profit dental organization dedicated to the practice of implant dentistry here and around the world. Through its public programs, quarterly newsletters, and bimonthly journals, they’re doing their part to educate others on implant practice and technique.
Diplomate status is the highest honor the ICOI, or any other professional society, can bestow on dentists actively practicing implant dentistry. Active members of the ICOI are able to achieve Diplomate status through various efforts, including education, research, and hands-on experience.

Detecting and Treating Decay Early with DIAGNOdent
April 30, 2012
A revolutionary tool is helping Dr. Goldstein detect and treat tooth decay earlier, when it can be almost impossible to detect with the naked eye. It’s called DIAGNOdent. With it, Dr. Goldstein is able to quickly and easily examine teeth for signs of decay where it can hide, along fissure lines or inside biting and chewing surfaces.
DIAGNOdent works by using a fluorescent light to compare the reflection wavelength of teeth against a healthy baseline. What this means for patients is simpler, shallower fillings that preserve more of the tooth’s natural structure.
That’s what we call conservative dentistry.
The aim of conservative dentistry is to help patients keep as much of their natural smile as possible, and for as long as possible. DIAGNOdent is a unique tool that’s helping Dr. Goldstein do that every day.
If you’d like to find out more about how DIAGNOdent is helping us, call our Randolph dental office today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Goldstein. We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
