Are You Setting a Good Oral Health Example?
May 1, 2013
You know how important regular visits to the dental office and good brushing and flossing techniques are. Your commitment to oral health probably didn’t develop on its own. Odds are, you had someone in your life—a parent, a grandparent, or some other family member—who set a good example and taught you the importance of both.
So of course it’s going to be the same for your own little one. Help your child understand the importance of diligent care by making it a habit to brush together until your child is old enough to do it on their own.
If you have questions about how to do that, Dr. Goldstein would be happy to offer you tips or any extra information you might need. With his years of experience and his dedication to prevention, he can offer advice on how to brush and floss more effectively, advice that you can then pass on to your son or daughter.
Developing healthy habits isn’t solely about brushing and flossing, though. It’s just as important to emphasize regular checkups and cleanings. With a regular checkup and cleaning, a doctor like Dr. Goldstein can keep an eye out for common oral health conditions like tooth decay and gum disease—conditions that need to be monitored and treated as soon as possible. Plus, with a cleaning, there’s a chance for extra stubborn bacteria, plaque, and calculus to be removed, getting teeth cleaner than brushing and flossing alone could have.
Do you have questions about how you can set a better example for your child? Call Randolph Dental Care to reserve an appointment. During your visit, Dr. Goldstein can answer any questions you might have, in addition to offering advice.
We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.

Will Dentists Be Able to Regrow Teeth In the Distant Future?
March 28, 2013
Earlier this month, Science World Report published an article on something that could change dentistry in the future. As reported in the Journal of Dental Research, doctors are getting closer and closer to helping patients replace missing teeth with new teeth grown from a patient’s own stem cells. That means that one day doctors may not have to rely on artificial restorative solutions. Instead, a completely new tooth could be grown in the patient’s mouth, resulting in a completely natural new smile.
The process works using a combination of specific cells taken from a patient’s gum tissue. When the right cells have been singled out and combined, the mixture is transplanted to a patient’s jaw, where the tooth will develop over time. The procedure is still being researched and developed, but in the future this could become an alternative to a service like dental implants.
Until that day, though, dental implants are still the best way to restore what a patient has lost. Dental implants mimic the structure of teeth by replacing both a missing tooth and the missing root underneath. What’s more, besides replacing a single tooth, dental implants can also be used to replace a full row of upper or lower teeth. That makes dental implants one of the most versatile dental services currently available
To find out if dental implants are right for you, call Dr. Goldstein’s Randolph dental office. During a consultation at Randolph Dental Care, we can diagnose your situation and help you understand if dental implants are the best solution for you.
Dr. Goldstein serves patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
The Growing Popularity of Dental Implants
February 8, 2013
There’s a tremendous need for restorative dentistry. Through their research, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry has found that close to 30 million Americans no longer have the teeth in one or both of their upper or lower jaws. They’ve also estimated that close to 15 million Americans have replaced missing teeth with a crown and bridge.
Traditional restorative options have been effective to a degree, but another service is gaining in popularity—dental implants. The number of patients who have dental implants continues to grow by 500,000 each year, with a success rate of 98 percent.
What accounts for the popularity and success of dental implants?
It’s in the way they interact with your smile. Dental implants come in two parts, just like natural teeth. The crown portion replaces your missing teeth while the implant portion replaces your missing tooth roots. The implants are made from titanium, a biocompatible metal that bonds with the bone in your jaw to create a strong foundation for your new smile. When the entire procedure is finished, patients can enjoy a smile that functions and looks just like a natural smile.
Have you struggled to adjust to traditional dentures, or another restorative option? Do you wish you had a smile as functional as the one you used to have? Are you worried about losing more teeth in the future because of bone loss? Dental implants could be the answer you’re looking for in each of these cases.
Not every patient is a candidate for the procedure, though. Dr. Goldstein of Randolph Dental Care would be happy to help you decide if dental implants are right for you. To find out if you’re a candidate for dental implants, reserve an appointment with Randolph Dental Care. Dr. Goldstein serves patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and surrounding areas.
Working with Remote Area Medical
February 5, 2013
Dr. Goldstein offered free dental care Saturday February 2, 2013 through Sunday February 3 when he participated in a weekend clinic put on by Remote Area Medical. Over the course of that weekend, hundreds of patients in need were able to have a variety of medical needs met, including dental, vision, and general medical care. In the dental clinic patients, had their teeth cleaned, filled and, when necessary extracted. Due to limited access to care, a large majority of the patients unfortunately required extractions. This was Dr. Goldstein’s third mission to help the underserved.
Patients began lining up Friday night at Chilhowee Park to make sure that they could be seen when the clinic opened the next day. For many of those who were there, a clinic like this one is the only way they can get the essential care they need.
Dr. Goldstein was proud to add his experience and expertise to the mix. A healthy smile is important for overall health and well being. When your oral health suffers, so can your health as a whole. A condition like gum disease can contribute to health conditions in the rest of the body, while missing or damaged teeth can make it hard to enjoy a diet of nutritious foods.
Software for Guided Implant Surgery
January 25, 2013
Dental implant surgery requires careful, precise planning. Any tool that can make the process easier and more trustworthy is a valuable asset. That’s why, as your Randolph implant dentist, Dr. Goldstein has invested in specialized implant planning software from 360imaging.
Using 360imaging in combination with his CT scan machine, Dr. Goldstein can create a detailed 3D model of your teeth and virtually place your implants on the computer. From that, a guide is fabricated that is used for precise placement of your implants. This takes all the guess work out of the placement and ensures a more rapid and predictable result. That means you can show up for your procedure feeling more comfortable about your surgery, as well as the rest of your procedure.
Why is planning an implant surgery so important? Because your implant posts are the foundation for your new smile. Once inserted, your implants will become a natural part of your jaw. To make sure that you achieve the best results possible, Dr. Goldstein has to place your implants in the most advantageous way. Careful pre-planning will make it easier to deliver the results you most need.
Do you want to learn more about our 360imagine software? Visit their website to read about what changes have been made to their updated edition. And if you have questions about the dental implant process and how Dr. Goldstein can help, give Randolph Dental Care a call. Dr. Goldstein provides implant placement and restoration for patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Effective Laser Dentistry with iLase
January 11, 2013
Our commitment to you, as your comprehensive Randolph dental office, is to provide you with great care using today’s best equipment and techniques. One way we’re going that is through laser dentistry.
One of the most common uses for laser dentistry is in providing periodontal therapy. With periodontal therapy through laser dentistry, Dr. Goldstein can target only the areas that need treatment. What’s more, because laser dentistry heals as it cuts, the process is more comfortable, less invasive, and involves a shorter recovery period.
The specific tool we use at our Randolph office is the iLase from Biolase. What sets iLase apart from other dental lasers is its versatility. As a self-contained tool without any cords or foot pedals, Dr. Goldstein can move to any position he needs to in order to deliver care. And thanks to the iLase’s wraparound finger switch, the device can be precisely controlled.
To find out more about iLase from Biolase, visit their website. And to find out how Dr. Goldstein is using iLase every day at his Randolph dental practice, give us a call. Our team would be happy to answer any questions you might have about laser dentistry or one of our other services.
With laser dentistry, Dr. Goldstein is giving his patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond excellent care that’s precise and also more comfortable.
Comprehensive Periodontal Therapy from Dr. Goldstein
November 28, 2012
In our last post, we mentioned that in a recent survey completed for the CDC revealed that gum disease is a more prevalent condition than many originally thought. So today, we’d like to talk about the periodontal therapies you’ll find at Randolph Dental Care.
One of the most basic forms of periodontal therapy is scaling and root planing. Often, for patients with milder forms of gum disease, scaling and root planing is the primary—and sometimes the only—treatment needed.
Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical therapy. The purpose of each is to remove plaque, calculus, and bacteria from either around or underneath the gum line.
Plaque is made from bacteria, and when not removed by brushing, flossing or a professional cleaning, it hardens into calculus. Plaque and calculus combined are what cause the soft tissue irritations responsible for gum disease.
But another nonsurgical tool that is helping Dr. Goldstein provide top-notch periodontal therapy to Randolph and beyond is Arestin. Using Arestin, Dr. Goldstein of Randolph Dental Care can provide more effective healing than he can with scaling and root planing alone. That’s because Arestin fights infection with medicated microspheres of antibiotics, delivering more concentrated care than is possible with a pill. What’s more, it’s painlessly delivered to where you need it and continues fighting well after your appointment is over.
Do you need treatment for gum disease? Explore our periodontal therapy page for more information, and call our Randolph dental office to reserve an appointment.
We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Gum Disease – More Prevalent than You Might Have Imagined
November 14, 2012
Gum disease is a prevalent oral health condition. So prevalent, in fact, that it’s one of the primary conditions Dr. Goldstein looks for at his Randolph dental office. Not only is gum disease the primary cause of adult tooth loss, it’s also been connected to a range of health problems in the rest of the body.
A recent survey regarding gum disease completed by the CDC has revealed that this already prevalent condition may be an even bigger problem than was initially believed.
The findings of the CDC’s study reveal that one out of every two US adults over 30 has some form of gum disease. That translates to 47.2% of the adult population—close to half.
Gum disease can vary from individual to individual, with some patients experiencing more developed symptoms and others experiencing mild symptoms or even no symptoms at all. That’s why regular visits with Dr. Goldstein at Randolph Dental Care are so important.
During a regular checkup with Dr. Goldstein, our Randolph team can thoroughly assess how your smile is doing. That way, we can know for sure if gum disease is something you need help with. If it is, we’re happy to offer comprehensive treatment. In certain cases, treatment may only mean spending more time brushing and flossing every day. For others, though, more advanced care may be needed.
In our next post, we’ll explain Dr. Goldstein’s treatment options and how they can help. In the meantime, if you know gum disease is something you’re struggling with, don’t hesitate to call Randolph Dental Care for an appointment.
We’re happy to help patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
