Protecting Young Students from Cavities with DIAGNOdent
August 31, 2012
As your family prepares for the start of a new school year, there’s one thing our entire team at Randolph Dental Care would like to remind you about: a back-to-school checkup. Now may be the last time you can bring your son or daughter in before the new school year ramps up and the holiday season arrives, so don’t miss it.
What to Expect from a Back-to-School Checkup
During your child’s back-to-school checkup, Dr. Goldstein will thoroughly examine your child’s smile for signs of common oral health conditions. As part of that exam, our Randolph office will use a variety of advanced technologies and techniques the make the process easier and more precise.
One of the tools we’ll use is DIAGNOdent. As we first explained in our post from April 30, DIAGNOdent is used to spot signs of decay early, before they have a chance to worsen. To do this, it uses a laser light to compare what we find with a healthy baseline, making it possible to spot decay before we can even diagnose it with just a visual exam.
Of course, everyone—dentists included—wish there was a way to get rid of decay completely, but that’s a long way off. So until then, DIAGNOdent is the best tool that Dr. Goldstein and dentists like him have to protect smiles of all ages from developing a serious problem with tooth decay.

How Technology Is Improving Dental Care
August 10, 2012
In our post from April 30, we talked about a unique tool called DIAGNOdent that’s making it easier for Dr. Goldstein and his team at Randolph Dental Care to detect and treat tooth decay early, as result, making dentistry more comfortable and more efficient.
But DIAGNOdent isn’t the only tool that’s helping us do all this. Our high-tech office in Randolph features other great tools that are improving dentistry, whether by making treatment quicker, more comfortable, or safer. You can read about some of these tools below:
With 3D CT scanning, Dr. Goldstein can take high-quality, 3-dimenionsal images of your smile, improving our ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of dental health conditions. Adding a 3D CT scanning machine to our Randolph office has truly improved our ability to help our patients.
We know how distressing dental drills can be for some patients. That’s why, at Randolph Dental Care, we’ve started using air abrasion when treating patients with tooth decay. Air abrasion doesn’t produce the sounds or sensations a drill does and is actually a faster, more comfortable, and more conservative tool.
Have you ever wished you could have an entire crown procedure finished in a single visit instead of two or three? CEREC makes that possible. Using our CEREC machine, Dr. Goldstein can design, mill, and place your crown in just one visit to our Randolph dental office, eliminating the need for temporary crowns or for multiple appointments.
Oral cancer screenings are important, but often, oral cancer isn’t diagnosed until it’s visible to the naked eye. By then, however, the disease may be too advanced to effectively treat. But with ViziLite, Dr. Goldstein can see what the naked eye can’t, letting him diagnose and treat oral cancer during its earliest stages, when treatment and recovery are still possible.
Are you ready to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Goldstein? Call Randolph Dental Care today. We serve patients from Randolph, Rockaway, Mendham, Chester, Morristown, Denville, Morris County, and beyond.
Image a Life without Tooth Decay
July 27, 2012
It was noted in a recent article from The Huffington Post that over 70% of the world’s population has cavities. What’s more, patients spend billions of dollars every year to prevent or treat tooth decay. But what if we told you that serious problems with cavities could soon be a thing of the past?
That’s not science fiction; it’s a fact. Two researchers—one out of Yale University and another from the University of Chile—have found a way to kill decay-causing bacteria with a special molecule they’ve dubbed “Keep 32.”
How does it work?
To understand that, you have to know how the tooth decay process works. It all begins when bacteria eat what you eat, and release lactic acid. It’s this substance—lactic acid—and not sugar that’s responsible for tooth decay.
The “Keep 32” molecule may be able to help by killing bacteria before they release lactic acid. And the best part is that “Keep 32” could do this through our toothpaste, mouthwash or mints making your regular home treatment more effective than it already is.
But as great as this news is, there’s no way to get your hands on “Keep 32” just yet, meaning that the best way to keep your smile clean and cavity-free is with good nutrition, daily brushing and flossing, and regular visits with Dr. Goldstein at Randolph Dental Care.

A Special Honor from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists
May 15, 2012
This past December, Dr. Goldstein was awarded Diplomate status by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
The ICOI is a non-profit dental organization dedicated to the practice of implant dentistry here and around the world. Through its public programs, quarterly newsletters, and bimonthly journals, they’re doing their part to educate others on implant practice and technique.
Diplomate status is the highest honor the ICOI, or any other professional society, can bestow on dentists actively practicing implant dentistry. Active members of the ICOI are able to achieve Diplomate status through various efforts, including education, research, and hands-on experience.
